The contemporary art group Kylkiäinen works with visual artists Katriina Sjöblom and Kati Juurikka, who since 2012 have been creating refined and aestheticised performances, sculptures and installations made of debris, rubbish and trash.
“The contrast between the subject matter and the materials and finished works is significant. For difficult subjects, we have chosen a clinical perspective. Weighty and seemingly hopeless issues are presented in our works as perky and approachable while containing unpopular information. The work is content-driven and its aesthetic is based on practical work in recycling and waste management.”
