ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The works in Appe Leppänen’s exhibition, “Susurrus,” depict insect-like creatures and plants from a wasteland. Linen, knot-dyed fabric, and recycled textiles have been used as the bases for the paintings. There is a flicker in the eye area that can be perceived out of the corner of the eye, but it disappears when you turn your head and attempt to focus. The crackling sound resembles the beating of insect wings striving toward the light.
Appe Leppänen
Appe Leppänen works experimentally in the field of painting, exploring various base materials and hanging solutions. Through her artistic practice, she engages with themes of connection to nature and enchantment, recreating the experiences he has gained while immersed in natural environments. Leppänen is particularly interested in the interaction between physical spaces and mental states, and her works reflect this focus rather than depicting a realistic world. She lives and works in Turku and graduated as a visual artist from the Turku Academy of Arts in 2020.
