About the exhibition
I have painted a land of the happy, where there are no frivolous or serious reasons for anger. Such a happy land must be invented by oneself. Fortunately, I happen to be an artist and can do so. There are also many unhappy lands that have ended up like that by following the wandering paths of the imagination. Not everything should be believed, but everything can be painted. That is how the world gets better.
Markku Arantila
Markku Arantila (b. 1960, lives in Helsingissä) graduater as a painter from Vapaa Taidekoulu in 1982 and completed his pedagogical studies at Taideteollinen Korkeakoulu in Helsinki from 1997 to 2000. Arantila’s works have been featured in numerous exhibitions, starting with the young artists’ exhibitions at Helsinki Art Hall in 1980 and 1982. His artworks explore mysterious landscapes, encounter strange creatures, and seek a personal path toward the future. The working title of his upcoming exhibition at Tm•gallery is Land of the Happy. This land of the happy exists on an unknown planet, one that neither resists nor opposes anything. For his watercolors, the artist uses thick handmade sheets of paper, combining multiple sheets for his larger works.
