Founded in 1846, the purpose of the Finnish Art Association is to support Finnish visual arts and to promote knowledge and practice of the arts. The Association achieves its purpose by, among other things, awarding annual grants and prizes to visual artists and art critics. The Finnish Art Association primarily aims to support young and talented visual artists at the beginning of their careers.
The association regularly organises solo and thematic exhibitions of Finnish art and related events. A key activity of the association is the acquisition of works of art for the annual members’ raffle. Every year, the members draw a hundred or so works of contemporary Finnish art, mainly by young artists, in an art raffle. In addition, the association organises croquis drawing evenings open to all at the Helsinki Taidehalli.
